Virgin Atlantic was started in the 1980s by Richard Branson. In 1984 he announced he would have a fully-fledged airline, ready to fly passengers, ready in 3 months. He stuck to his word and three months later Virgin Atlantic was launched.
By the end of the 80’s, Virgin had flown over 1 million passengers across the globe. In that time as well, Virgin Atlantic became the first airline to offer Business Class passengers their own personal TVs.
From then until now, Virgin Atlantic has constantly been upgrading its services, expanding its fleet, and improving the service for its passengers. The service was incredible a decade ago, and it just gets better every day.

Check-In requirements
Travel Documents
Virgin Atlantic cannot and will not be held responsible for any passengers missing their flight or connecting flight due to the passenger having an incorrect or invalid form of identification, passport, boarding pass, or visa/visas
When travelling domestically, it is essential that passengers arrive at the airport with a valid form of identification or passport, as well as a valid boarding pass for their flight before they will be allowed to board.
When travelling internationally, passengers need to arrive with a valid and approved passport, as well as a valid boarding pass and any required visa/visas for the country you are travelling to.
Check-In
You are able to check-in at the airport using either the check-in desk or kiosk. The check-in closes 60 minutes before the time of your departure, therefore it is recommended that you arrive 2 to 3 hours before your flight is due to depart.
You are also able to check-in online or via the Virgin Atlantic app. The check-in opens 24 hours before your departure time, and it closes 70 minutes before departure. Checking in online is quick and hassle-free, and allows you to avoid any and all queues.
Business Class Lounges
Virgin Atlantic offers premium flyers the chance to visit their Clubhouses. These clubhouses offer visitors incredible food, a bar, a shower, relaxation time, and even a spa. They are the perfect places to recharge before a flight.
Domestic Flights
Domestically, Virgin Atlantic services a few destinations within the UK. you are able to fly to London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Belfast. Their domestic routes are limited, but they do cover major cities.
International Flights

Virgin Atlantic Baggage Policy
Checked Baggage
If you are traveling Economy class, you are allowed one piece of checked baggage weighing no more than 23 kgs. If you are traveling Premium, you are allowed two bags weighing no more than 23 kgs. Upper-Class passengers are allowed three bags with a maximum weight of 23 kgs.
Cabin or Hand Baggage
Economy and Premium passengers are allowed one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kgs. Upper-Class passengers are allowed two pieces of hand luggage with a total combined weight of 16 kgs.
Excess Baggage
Fees for oversized and excess baggage or dependant on when you book. Please refer to the Virgin Atlantic website, or call the customer care centre to find out what your fees will be if you have overweight or excess luggage.
