KLM Royal Dutch Airlines started back in 1919. In 1924, they took their first flight from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and flew to their colony in modern-day Jakarta. They then started a scheduled service to their colony in 1929, which was the longest-distance scheduled service at the time.

 

Another unusual title is held by the airline, it is the oldest airline in the world that is still operating under their original name. Being the Netherlands flagship carrier, the fly passengers across the country, and to many destinations across the globe.

 

Domestically, the only destination KLM now flies to is Kralendijk. Internationally, KLM travels across Europe to countries such as Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Brazil, Japan, South America, Asia, most of Europe and a few destinations in Africa.

Travel Documents

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is not responsible for any missed flights or refunds due to passengers arriving with the incorrect passport, forms of identification, boarding pass, or the appropriate visa.

 

When travelling domestically, a passenger is required to have a valid form of identification or passport, as well as a valid boarding pass before being allowed to board the aircraft.

 

When travelling internationally, a passenger is required to have an up-to-date, valid passport, a valid boarding pass, as well as any and all relevant visas for the country they are entering.

Check-In

Like with most modern airlines nowadays, there are three ways for you to check-in before your flight. You are able to check-in at the airport, online, or using your mobile device.

 

When checking in online, you are able to check-in anytime between 30 and 1 hour before your departure time. If you are flying to the United States, online check-in opens 24 hours before your departure time.

 

Checking in at the airport requires you to go to the desk or kiosk of the airline. If you are traveling within Europe, the desks open up 2 hours before departure, if you are traveling intercontinentally, the desks open 3 hours before departure.

 

With regards to closing times, if you are traveling within Europe, the desks close 40 minutes before departure, if you are traveling intercontinentally, the desks will close 60 minutes before departure. Due to wait times, it is recommended that you arrive at least 2 hours before your departure time.

Business Class Lounges

There is a lounge at Schipol Airport that is available to all Business Class, Blue Platinum, Blue Gold, Skyteam Elite Plus, and Blue Petroleum members, the lounge is free to enter. Other members will need to pay a fee to enter.

Internationally, KLM travels across Europe, North America, a few destinations in Central and South America, Africa and Asia. they have many routes across the globe and fly to some more unusual locations such as Tanzania, Iran, Chile, Curacao, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, and the Philippines.

KLM Baggage Policy

Checked Baggage

If you are travelling economy, you are allowed 1 checked-in bag with a maximum weight of 23 kgs. If you are travelling Business Class, you are allowed to check two bags, with a combined weight of 32 kgs.

 

If you are a Flying Blue Silver, Gold, and Platinum member, or a Skyteam or Skyteam elite member, you are allowed one more bag with the same weight and dimensions as mentioned above.

Cabin or Hand Baggage

If you are traveling economy, you are allowed one carry-on bag that can fit in the overhead bins, as well as one accessory bag with a combined weight of 12 kgs. If you are traveling Business Class, you are allowed 2 carry-on bags and one accessory bag weighing 18 kgs combined.

Excess Baggage

If your baggage is overweight, you will be subject to a fine that you will need to pay if your baggage weighs more than the maximum allowed, it will not be allowed onto the aircraft unless prior arrangements have been made with the airline.
